MHA Allocates Rs 5,858.60 Crore to 14 Flood-Hit States for Relief Efforts

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has allocated Rs 5,858.60 crore to 14 flood-affected states as part of the central share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and as an advance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) have been deployed to assess damage in the flood-hit states of Assam, Mizoram, Kerala, Tripura, Nagaland, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Manipur. Similar teams will soon be sent to Bihar and West Bengal for on-the-spot evaluations.

Once the IMCTs submit their reports, additional financial assistance from the NDRF will be sanctioned according to standard procedures, as stated by the MHA. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, over Rs 14,958 crore has been disbursed to 21 states so far this year.

The Rs 5,858.60 crore released includes Rs 1,492 crore for Maharashtra, Rs 1,036 crore for Andhra Pradesh, Rs 716 crore for Assam, Rs 655.60 crore for Bihar, Rs 600 crore for Gujarat, Rs 189.20 crore for Himachal Pradesh, Rs 145.60 crore for Kerala, Rs 50 crore for Manipur, Rs 21.60 crore for Mizoram, Rs 19.20 crore for Nagaland, Rs 23.60 crore for Sikkim, Rs 416.80 crore for Telangana, Rs 25 crore for Tripura, and Rs 468 crore for West Bengal. These states have been severely impacted by heavy rains, floods, and landslides during this year’s southwest monsoon.

The MHA also mentioned that more than Rs 14,958 crore has been released to 21 states this year, which includes Rs 9,044.80 crore from the SDRF to 21 states, Rs 4,528.66 crore from the NDRF to 15 states, and Rs 1,385.45 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 11 states. Additionally, the central government has provided logistical support by deploying NDRF teams, Army units, and Air Force assistance to help all the flood-affected states.
