Meerut Building Collapse: Death Toll Climbs to 10, Rescue Operations Continue Amid Floods

The death toll from the building collapse in Meerut’s Zakir Colony has risen to 10, with five individuals currently receiving medical treatment, according to a senior police official. The rescue operation is still in progress, with authorities ensuring that no additional survivors are trapped under the rubble.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. According to Meerut District Magistrate Deepak Meena, all 15 individuals initially trapped have been rescued. The deceased have been transported to the hospital for further medical procedures, including post-mortem, while the injured are being treated.

The area surrounding the collapse site has been sealed off as rescue teams continue their search. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are on-site, using sniffer dogs to locate any remaining signs of life amidst the debris. The operation is being conducted amid adverse weather conditions, including rain.

In addition to the building collapse, Uttar Pradesh is facing severe flooding, affecting 11 districts. According to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s office, 17 flood-related deaths have been reported. Relief efforts include compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased, assistance for those affected by the loss of animals, and support for damaged homes.
