The woman who is believed to have inspired the character of Mama Coco in Disney Pixar’s Coco Maria Salud Ramirez Caballero passed away at the age of 109.
Meanwhile, in Santa Fe de la Laguna Caballero died where she was also born.
Taking to Twitter, Tourism for the Mexican state of Michoacan Roberto Monroy announced Caballero’s death on 16 October.
“I deeply regret the death of Dona Maria Salud Ramirez Caballero, ‘Mama Coco,’ a tireless woman and example of life. Who was the inspiration for this beloved character who went around the world,” Monroy wrote.
Moreover, the animated film which came in 2017 tells the story of 12-year-old Miguel who strums his ancestor’s guitar and lands in the Land of the Dead where he meets his deceased great-great-grandfather.
However, it was never officially revealed by Disney that Caballero was the inspiration behind the movie’s matriarch.
Furthermore, Caballero was a ceramic potter who have three children, grand-kids, and great-grand-kids.
