Manipur Govt Closes Colleges Amid Unrest, Internet Ban Extended

The Manipur government on Tuesday has closed colleges till September 12 and imposed an internet ban amid ongoing unrest.

Colleges in Manipur Closed Until September 12 Amid Ongoing Violence
The Manipur government has announced that all government, aided, and private colleges in the state will remain closed until September 12, 2024. The order was issued by Laishram Dolie Devi, Joint Secretary of Higher and Technical Education, as a response to the unrest in the state. Colleges will remain shut on Wednesday and Thursday to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Internet Ban Imposed to Curb Disinformation
In addition to the college closures, the state government has imposed an internet ban starting Tuesday to prevent the spread of false information and rumors through social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. This ban is set to remain in place until September 15.

Security Forces Intensify Operations in Violence-Hit Areas
Joint security forces, including the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and state police, conducted successful operations in violence-affected districts such as Kakching and Churachandpur. Substantial quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered, demonstrating the effectiveness of the joint search and recovery operations. Inspector General of Police (Operations) IK Muviah also stated that evidence related to the drone bombing case will likely be handed over to national investigative agencies for further investigation.
