Chandigarh: BJP Politician and Animal Lover Maneka Sanjay Gandhi again placed Chandigarh Forest and Wildlife Department in the dock. This time on 30 August, Maneka Gandhi while replying to the mail of Second Innings Association called Chandigarh’s ‘A Walkthrough Aviary of Birds’ project as a bad project.
After a lot of hue and cry by city-based associations, Chandigarh Forest and Wildlife Department officials are still adamant to declare the ‘A Walkthrough aviary of birds’ project as a legit one. Second Innings association again has written to all concerned ministries and officials regarding the violations. Association President R.K. Garg also has put complaint regarding the manipulative bureaucratic language of Chandigarh Forest and Wildlife Department by which the department is trying to declare the project as legit one. Chandigarh Forest and Wildlife department has written an explanatory letter to the Animal Welfare Board of India that says Chandigarh Forest Department is making TWO Aviaries at Nagar Van within the city limit housing exotic birds only which are commonly bred in India. The procurement of exotic birds was done only from the registered reputed and authentic sellers/breeders/supplies. These Suppliers are registered with the Animal Welfare Board of Tamil Nadu (AWBT) and also registered on the PARIVESH portal of the ministry MOEF. The Forest department verified all the details and sources of the birds were also traced by physically visiting the facility on site.
