Mahakumbh 2025: Safety Measures with 220 High-Tech Divers, 700 Boats on 24/7 Alert at Sangam

In preparation for the Mahakumbh 2025, the Uttar Pradesh government is implementing extensive security measures to ensure a safe experience for millions of pilgrims expected to gather for this sacred event. Following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directives, a massive deployment of 220 skilled deep-sea divers and 700 boats will operate round-the-clock to safeguard the Sangam waters in Prayagraj, where devotees will participate in ritualistic baths.

Extensive Security and Safety Preparedness

For the first time, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are stationing such a large number of high-tech divers on high alert to protect attendees. The 220 divers, sourced from regions across India, will join the efforts of 39 locally stationed personnel, while an impressive fleet of 700 boats will provide consistent water patrol. According to Janardan Prasad Sahni, Water Police In-Charge at Kila Police Station, the divers and boats will ensure safety around the clock.

Additional support will come from elite Water Police personnel from Goa, Kolkata, and Maharashtra, who will join forces in Prayagraj to guard devotees during the festival’s ritual bathing days. Local expertise is also being enlisted, with over 200 local individuals currently undergoing training to aid in water safety efforts, including boatmen skilled in navigating the river’s depths.

Multi-Agency Collaboration for Secure Pilgrimage

The NDRF, SDRF, water police, PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary), and healthcare teams are collaborating closely to manage any potential emergencies effectively. Ten PAC companies, twelve NDRF teams, and six SDRF units will provide additional layers of security, alongside healthcare teams ensuring the well-being of the attendees.

Various government and non-government organizations have also pledged support, with local residents actively participating in the grand event. “We are ensuring the highest level of preparedness and vigilance for a safe Mahakumbh,” said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

A Grand Cultural Gathering with Rich Heritage

Scheduled to begin with the Paush Purnima Snan on January 13, 2025, and concluding on Mahashivratri, February 26, Mahakumbh 2025 promises to be a monumental display of India’s cultural heritage. Millions of devotees, including pilgrims from across India and abroad, are expected to attend this significant event in Sanatan Dharma.
