Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to meet Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday. The two leaders will then hold a joint press conference at the SP state headquarters in Lucknow. This marks Kejriwal’s inaugural visit to Uttar Pradesh since his release from Delhi’s Tihar jail on May 10.
Kejriwal’s visit coincides with the heightened campaign of the INDIA bloc against the ruling NDA. AAP UP convener Sanjay Singh will accompany Kejriwal during the visit. The joint press conference between Akhilesh and Kejriwal follows a similar event held by Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge and SP president Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow on Wednesday.
Kejriwal was released from Delhi’s Tihar jail on May 10, 50 days after his incarceration on corruption charges related to the alleged liquor policy scam. This release came hours after the Supreme Court granted him bail until June 1. Kejriwal had been sent to jail on March 21, shortly after the notification of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Since his release, the Delhi CM has embarked on campaigning for AAP and the INDIA bloc.
