The Congress leader and current Member of Parliament, Rahul Gandhi, has disclosed assets valued at more than Rs 20 crore in his nomination documents for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. As per the affidavit submitted to the returning officer on Wednesday, Gandhi’s movable assets exceed Rs 9 crore (Rs 9,24,59,264), while his immovable assets are over Rs 11 crore (Rs 11,15,02,598), summing up to a total of over Rs 20 crore (Rs 20,39,61,862). Additionally, he has revealed ownership of two parcels of land jointly with his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
His income sources, as stated in the affidavit, include his MP’s salary, royalties, rentals, interest, bonds, dividends, and capital gains from mutual funds, with a total income of Rs 1,02,78,680 for the fiscal year 2022-23.
Furthermore, Rahul Gandhi has disclosed his educational qualifications, indicating that he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rollins College, Florida, in 1994 and an M.Phil in Development Studies from Trinity College, University of Cambridge, in 1995.
On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi submitted his nomination papers for the Wayanad parliamentary constituency following a roadshow in Kalpetta, Wayanad. Thousands of supporters, including leaders and workers of the United Democratic Front (UDF), gathered in Kalpetta to greet him. Accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul led a roadshow from Kalpetta to Civil Station, expressing his readiness to highlight Wayanad’s issues nationally and internationally.
In the same constituency, Annie Raj, a national leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and candidate of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), also filed her nomination papers. While the CPI is an ally of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front in Kerala, it competes fiercely with the Congress in the state, despite being partners in the opposition INDIA bloc.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), striving for significant influence in the 2024 elections, has nominated Kerala State President K Surendran as a candidate from the constituency as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Kerala, retaining a strong Congress presence, sends 20 parliamentarians to the Lok Sabha. The voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Kerala, covering all 20 constituencies, is scheduled for April 26, with vote counting slated for June 4.
