Soham Shah Is Yet To Get His Due, ‘Kartam Bhugtam’ Has Several Twists: Shreyas Talpade | Exclusive

Shreyas Talpade, one of Bollywood’s most underrated performers, will soon be seen in Soham Shah’s Kartam Bhugtam. The film, slated to hit screens on May 17, has created a buzz among cinephiles with its thrilling and unnerving trailer. In an exclusive interview with The Daily Guardian, the ‘Iqbal’ actor opened up about the film and revealed that he took it up because of its premise and title.

He also praised Soham Shah. Additionally, Shreyas reflected on his journey and said that he has been through difficult times but bounced back due to his family’s support.

What drew you towards ‘Kartam Bhugtam’?

I liked the title and found the story to be intriguing. Then, I have also always wanted to work with Sohum Shah as he is a really good filmmaker. These factors drew me towards the film.

How did you prepare for your role in the film?

The key here was to think like and understand the character. The story is naturally important on this front. You need to know what he faces and the reasons behind it. In other words, you have to live the character.

How was the experience of collaborating with Sohum Shah?

It was a great experience. Soham is an able filmmaker but is still to get his due. I have followed his work. For ‘Kartam Bhugtam’, we asked him to do something in sync with the times and not ahead of it. The film has an original story and has twists and surprising turns.

How similar is your character in the film to your real personality?

‘Kartam Bhugtam’ is a thriller and not a documentary or a preachy film. It is a story of how there often comes a time when we tend to be vulnerable and question ourselves. Not just me, but 99 per cent of the audience will relate to the character.

Have you faced low phases in your career?

100 per cent aise cheeze hui hai. In our profession, kaafi upar neeche rehta hai. I have been through such things. And, I feel, aage bhi aise phases aayenge.

What kept you going during these hard times?

There were phases when I lost faith but the support of my family came in handy. It is the most important thing in this journey. You also need good friends in life.

You have acted in cult comedies as well as realistic dramas. Which spectrum is more challenging?

I feel comedy is the most difficult genre as it is not easy to make everyone laugh. Moreover, it is not easy to come up with a clean family entertainer. That way, what Rohit Shetty is doing is commendable.

What is your take on adult comedies?

Each unto his own. There is an audience for adult comedy as well. If such films flop then filmmakers will stop making them.
