The Supreme Court Collegium, SCC bench comprising of CJI D Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna recommended the name of Bombay High Court judge, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur for the appointment as the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court.
On May 19, 2023, the office of Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court felt vacant upon the elevation of Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium appointed Justice Thakur as a Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on 08.03.2013 and he is now the senior-most Judge in his parent High Court. He was transferred to Bombay High Court in June 2022.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Thakur’s name for elevation as Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court on 09.02.2023 and the same has been pending with the Government.
It has also been noted by the Supreme Court Collegium that Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur is fit and suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court.
Adding to it, Justice Thakur, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh High Court stated that it would get representation amongst the Chief Justices of the High Courts.
The Supreme Court Collegium recommended to resolve that Mr Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur be appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh dated
