Supreme Court Collegium Recommended Appointment Of Two Advocates As The Judges Of Madras High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice SK Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna, recommended for the appointment of two advocates as Judges of the Madras High Court.
The name of the two advocates is:
1. N Senthilkumar, and
2. G Arul Murugan
The Supreme Court recommendation comes after the Madras High Court Collegium recommended the names of them in its resolution dates 03.08.2022 and the same was being concurred by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Governor.
It has also been stated by the Supreme Court Collegium that the elevation of the Advocates, who belongs to the community of Supreme Court and the OBC Community respectively, as the said judge would bring better representation at the bar.
The Supreme Court Collegium had considered the recommendation on January 17 and has also seek specific materials from to the government after taking note of the observations of the Department of Justice.
In the said case the file was received back by the court with the Government stating that it did not have any additional inputs.
It has also been considered by the Supreme Court Collegium that the recommendation but it is being deferred the decision of it wherein seeking the opinion of two members of High Court Collegium as an earlier recommendation for the transfer of then acting Chief Justice was already pending.
The bench of Justice SV Gangapurwala observed and took as the charge of the Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
It has also been requested by the Supreme Court Collegium to send views on the advocates which was duly being received.
