Kerala High Court makes possible to carry out its decision to stop construction of CPI(M) offices in Idukki

A day after ordering the demolition of CPI(M) party offices in three locations of the Idukki district, the Kerala High Court revisited the issue on Wednesday despite reports of ongoing construction there and stated that its order has been given to the District Collector for implementation.

A special bench of Justices A Muhamed Mustaque and Sophy Thomas took up the case after noon after noticing that its order had not been followed since the District Collector had not gotten a copy of it.

In today’s brief session, the petitioners’ attorney claimed that some of the people who worked on construction projects all night were deliberately disobeying the court’s order.

The bench felt that the District Collector could not have acted without the directive at hand, nonetheless.

The court had ordered the construction of CPI(M) party offices to stop on Tuesday in the Idukki neighbourhoods of Udumbanchola, Bison Valley, and Santhanpara.

The District Collector had been instructed to halt the constructions and, if necessary, get police protection for them.

It was ordered that the required security be provided by the District Police Chief.

The bench further instructed the district authorities not to issue number and occupancy certificates for even the finished buildings in those regions.

In response to a petition calling for a halt to all land transactions in the Idukki district’s taluks of Devikulam, Udumbanchola, and Peerumedu, the court issued its directives.

In addition, the petition asks that all construction projects in the Idukki district’s Chinnakkanal, Pallivasal, Devikulam, Udumbanchola, and Peerumedu taluks be suspended pending the outcome of an investigation into the validity of the title documents.
