The Chhattisgarh High Court started its live streaming its court proceedings on YouTube on August 16, 2023. The courtroom, 3 and 5 are being live-streamed by the Court and the proceedings conducted in the court can be watched there.
The Gujarat High Court was the very first High Court in the Country to live-stream its proceedings in 2020. The same was followed by several High Courts across the nation i.e., Gauhati (the Principal Bench), Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Patna (which being currently not functional), Telangana High Court, and Meghalaya High Court.
The initiatives which are taken to live stream Court hearings were taken pursuant to the decision of the Supreme Court in the case Swapnil Tripathi v. Supreme Court of India, wherein the Supreme Court stressed on transparency of Court proceedings.
Further, it has been held by the Apex Court that the Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
The Supreme Court also started the live-streaming the proceedings of the Constitution Benches.
