Yet another student from Kota has tragically taken their own life. Kota is renowned across the country for its engineering and medical coaching centres, however, the suicide rates in Kota have been alarming. A West Bengal native, actively preparing for the NEET exam while residing in Kota, committed suicide by hanging. The deceased, identified as Forid Hussain (20), resided in a rented room in Kota’s Wakf Nagar area. In the late evening, he took the heartbreaking step of ending his life by hanging himself in his room.
After being found, he was swiftly taken to a private hospital, and removed from the noose. Unfortunately, the doctor, following an examination, pronounced him dead. The police have since transferred the deceased’s body to the mortuary of MBS Hospital for post-mortem analysis.
Dadabari Thana CI Rajesh Pathak reported that Forid, the student, resided in a rented house and was engaged in NEET preparation through private coaching. Other children shared the accommodation with him. Until 4 in the evening, he was seen by the other children. However, he did not emerge from his room after 7 in the evening. Upon calling out to him, Forid did not respond, prompting his friends to notify the landlord. Subsequently, the police were informed and arrived at the scene. The preliminary assessment suggests that Forid might have taken his own life between 5 and 7 in the evening. The reason behind the student’s suicide is currently undisclosed, and the family has been notified. Forid had been preparing for NEET since last year.
This year, 26 students have committed suicide in Kota.
It is worth noting that incidents of suicide among coaching students in Kota are increasing continuously at an alarming rate. From January to now in 2023, a total of 26 students have committed suicide. The prevalent cause of these incidents appears to be academic stress, with family issues also cited as a contributing factor in some instances. The rising number of student suicides has raised significant concerns.
