Seeking the information about the promotion of non-motorized transport, expenditure and electric buses in parliament, Kartikey Sharma, an MP asked the information pertaining to steps being taken to promote non-motorized transport, the details of expenditure incurred during the last three years along with associated aspects. In a reaction to this, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore said that the initiatives for planning, monitoring, management and implementation of urban transport systems including promotion of nonmotorized transport are taken by the State Governments/Union Territories/ Urban Local Governments. No funds were released by the Ministry for promoting non-motorized transport in Haryana during the last three years. The Government of India has launched “PM eBus Seva Yojana” on 16 August 2023 with the objective of promoting infrastructure related development and bus operations using electric buses on PPP model in urban areas with a central assistance of Rs 20,000 crore. Further he said that 169 cities with population between 3 lakh to 40 lakh as per 2011 census, including 7 cities of Haryana (Faridabad, Gurugram, Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak and Yamunanagar) are eligible for this scheme.
