This comes despite some polls indicating that Trump garners more public trust on economic issues. Harris sought to present her vision as forward-thinking and effective.
When asked about the public’s greater trust in Trump regarding the economy, Kamala Harris stated, “When you look at an analysis of our plans, it’s clear that moving forward requires a shift from the divisiveness and rhetoric associated with Trump.” She emphasized that her economic policy is designed to strengthen the nation, contrasting it with Trump’s approach, which she believes benefits billionaires and large corporations while worsening the national deficit.
Harris elaborated, saying, “My plan for the economy does exactly that. His plan would be, again, to give tax cuts to billionaires and the biggest corporations in our country and blow up our deficit.”
Although the interview had a confrontational tone, with Harris facing interruptions, she maintained her focus on presenting new ideas and fostering bipartisan cooperation. She highlighted the importance of addressing critical issues like housing shortages and support for small businesses.
Critics from Trump’s camp labeled the interview a “train wreck,” arguing that Harris did not take responsibility for her party’s shortcomings. Conversely, Democratic supporters contended that Harris effectively communicated her policies to an audience that is typically unsupportive, without major missteps.
Harris’s outreach to Republican voters included an event in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where she discussed Trump’s attempts to undermine the results of the 2020 election. She stated, “He refused to accept the will of the people,” reinforcing her belief that unity across party lines is crucial for the upcoming election.
Recent polling by Reuters/Ipsos shows a competitive race, with Harris leading Trump nationally 45% to 42%. However, Trump still maintains a slight edge on economic issues, with 45% support compared to Harris’s 40%.
