Justice Tankha Memorial School of Jabalpur celebrated its 25th anniversary on Saturday with the inauguration of the first Justice Verma Memorial Lecture. The event was held at Manas Bhawan in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The institution is dedicated to differently abled children and has been contributing since 1997. The school has produced over 200 skilled, differently abled students.
The Justice Verma Memorial Committee, which is chaired by Rajya Sabha MP and Senior Advocate Vivek Tankha, organised the event with the assistance of the Bar Council of India, the State Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh, and the Bar Association of Jabalpur.
The Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankar graced the occasion with his presence as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Governor Mangubhai Patel. Meanwhile, Justice J.K Maheshwari and Justice S.K. Kaul, Justice Ravi Malimath, and the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh were also present at the event.
At the event, they witnessed the overwhelming performances of the differently-abled children.
While inaugurating the first Justice Verma Memorial Lecture, Vivek Tankha paid tribute to Justice Verma, saying, “Justice J.S. Verma was a man of rectitude. His decisions spoke on behalf of him.”
Vivek Tankha remembered Justice Verma as saying, “At times, I would file my cases without reading them. Once, Justice Verma came across a case that I had filed for Mr Pathak (my senior) and asked to meet me. “
Tankha added that Justice Verma asked him if he was Chittaranjan Bandhu Das and that he did not have the time to read what he had filed and asked to rectify his mistakes. This made Tankha speechless.
Furthermore, he said, “After that incident, I promised my senior that I wouldn’t file the case until I had thoroughly reviewed it.”
“Justice Verma was strict but had an extremely likeable personality that his juniors feared due to his charisma,” stated Tankha.
Amid the celebration, two major announcements were made related to the health and education sectors. This includes the hosting of free OPDs in 60 different hospitals in Jabalpur starting from 2 October, and the launch of ‘First-in-Class E-Vidya’ to offer support to all the children in need.
Justice J.S. Verma, inaugurated the school in 1997.
