Pandurang K. Pole, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir, conducted an extensive virtual review of poll preparedness across the Union Territory at Nirvachan Bhawan, Jammu.

The meeting was attended by all District Election Officers (DEOs) along with heads of departments from PWD, BRO SAMPARK, IMD, PMGSY, and NHAI.

During the session, DEOs briefed the CEO on various initiatives undertaken to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024. They provided updates on the status of Advance Micro Observer Facilities (AMF), printing of ballot papers, commissioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), distribution of voter information slips, transportation plans, webcasting of polling stations, status of model polling stations, and welfare measures for polling personnel.

Highlighting the significance of the first phase of elections scheduled for April 19, 2024, across five districts of the UT, the CEO emphasized strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Election Commission of India during the last 72 hours before polling day.

DEOs responsible for districts participating in the second phase of elections were directed to ensure 100% distribution of voter information slips to eligible voters by March 20. Additionally, comprehensive Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) exercises were emphasized to encourage maximum voter turnout.

In light of prevailing weather conditions, DEOs were tasked with developing and implementing robust Disaster Management Plans to facilitate incident-free elections. The CEO underscored the importance of welfare measures for polling personnel, directing officers to appoint a dedicated Nodal Officer for Polling Welfare. Ensuring proper amenities and support for officials involved in election duties was emphasized.

The review meeting exemplified proactive efforts by electoral authorities to ensure efficient, transparent, and inclusive Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
