In a recent development, Municipal Mayor Munesh Gurjar has directed that individuals lacking Aadhaar cards can now access night shelters. This decision, announced during the Mayor’s visit to city night shelters, is accompanied by plans to install CCTV cameras at shelter entrances for enhanced identification. Observing people sleeping outdoors during the inspection, Mayor Gurjar encouraged them to utilise the available rain shelters, especially considering that some of the homeless population lack Aadhaar cards.
Responding to this concern, Mayor Gurjar instructed Chief Engineer Headquarters, Subodh, to explore alternative identification options for homeless individuals. The directive also includes the installation of CCTV cameras at rain shelter entrances for improved recognition. For those without formal IDs, verification procedures will involve coordination with local police stations, and the Municipal Administration will correspondingly write to the Police Commissioner.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the cleanliness conditions surrounding the night shelters, Mayor Gurjar issued notices to the Sanitary Inspectors of Ward 36 for inadequate cleanliness management. The Mayor further directed notices for cleanliness irregularities to the Chief Sanitary Inspector and Sanitary Inspector, indicating potential suspension if sanitation conditions do not witness improvement.
