In Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah kicked off the “Run for Unity” on Tuesday morning at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC). The event, part of National Unity Day celebrations, commemorated the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and a symbol of national unity. Participants included civil administration officials, police, CRPF personnel, students, and locals, all gathered in solidarity to honor Patel’s legacy and promote cohesion in Jammu and Kashmir.

The run, which concluded at the Botanical Garden, saw a large turnout of enthusiastic participants waving banners and embodying the spirit of togetherness. Abdullah emphasized that events like these not only pay tribute to Patel but also reinforce the principles of unity and integrity within the Union Territory. Alongside the event, Abdullah launched “Vigilance Awareness Week,” underscoring the importance of transparency and public accountability, especially as Jammu and Kashmir pursues full statehood.

Traffic advisories were issued by local authorities to facilitate smooth movement for the event, ensuring that the route remained accessible and participants could run without disruptions. The “Run for Unity” continues to serve as a broader initiative, supported by the central government since 2014, to foster and reinforce national unity on Patel’s birthday across India.
