An ISRO scientist has disclosed the starting salary for new recruits at the space agency and shared what he considers the job’s biggest perk. A brief interview with this unnamed scientist is currently gaining traction on Instagram.
The video was posted by Broke Brothers, a channel known for its street interviews. The interviewer typically approaches passersby in Bengaluru to see if they are willing to answer a few questions on camera. The videos of their responses are then uploaded to Broke Brothers’ Instagram and YouTube channels. Their questions mainly focus on finance, including topics like salaries, jobs, and savings.
In their latest video, Broke Brothers interviewed a man who turned out to be a scientist with ISRO, the Indian space agency headquartered in Bengaluru.
When asked about the salary a fresher can expect at ISRO, the scientist said, “The entry level salary is around Rs. 1 lakh per month. Rs. 15 lakhs you can assume is the CTC,” he added.
When questioned about the biggest perk of the job, he responded by highlighting the benefits of a government job. “The best thing, according to me, is CHSS,” the scientist stated. “The top hospitals are enrolled under ISRO. Treatment is free,” he explained. CHSS, or Contributory Health Service Scheme, allows beneficiaries to reimburse the cost of treatment and diagnostic tests at empanelled hospitals.
Since its release two days ago, the video has garnered over half a million views and sparked diverse opinions on Instagram.
“Imagine being a space scientist and not being able to afford things abroad. It’s time they start paying well in sectors like these. 1 lakh is a joke,” one Instagram user commented.
Another user, however, argued that entry-level scientists are paid even less than Rs. 1 lakh. “Then entry level salary of an ISRO scientist is Rs. 55k plus allowances. This is a straight up white lie,” the user commented.
“ISRO chairman’s salary is Rs. 2.5 lakh a month and he’s saying entry level salary is a lakh.. Hmmmm,” a third person remarked.
