Interactive Session on Sociology of Food Consumption Inspires Healthy Eating Habits"

The Post Graduate department of Sociology organized an Interactive Session on What is Food: Sociology of Consumption. Dr. Vinod Kumar Chaudhary, Chairperson, Department of Sociology, Panjab University was the guest speaker. Mr. Ajay Sharma, Dean, Prof. Guneeta Chaddha, Vice Principal, members of the faculty from various disciplines and more than 120 students attended the session.

Dr. Manoj Kumar welcomed the guests and introduced the speaker. The programme commenced by recitation of Vedic chants by Prof. Renu Trikha, Head, PG Department of Sociology. Dr. Vinod Kumar apprised the audience regarding issues related with food production and consumption. He busted various myths regarding our everyday food habits. He emphasized that food may fill our belly, not our appetite. He advised the audience to change their eating habits and not fall prey to junk food and stay close to nature.

The session was enriching and engaging, the queries of the students were adequately addressed. Principal, Prof. Anita Kaushal congratulated the department for organizing the talk on such a relevant subject. She motivated the students to adapt to a healthy lifestyle and consume regional and seasonal food. Ms. Diksha Sharma, CR (MA II, Sociology) pro- posed a vote of thanks.
