The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, launched “Eklavya,” an advanced online learning platform for the Indian Army, on Thursday. The initiative is part of the Army’s “Decade of Transformation” and aligns with its 2024 theme, “Year of Technology Absorption,” aiming to modernize and enrich officer training.
Zero-Cost Development and Cutting-Edge Technology
Developed at zero cost by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute of Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG-N), Gandhinagar, with support from the Directorate General of Information Systems, Eklavya is hosted on the Army Data Network. Its scalable architecture allows seamless integration of training establishments and extensive course offerings.
Under the supervision of the Army Training Command and sponsored by the Army War College, the platform already hosts 96 courses from 17 premier training establishments.
Three Comprehensive Course Categories
Pre-Course Preparatory Capsules
These courses focus on foundational material for offline training, freeing physical courses to emphasize contemporary and application-based content. This approach decongests existing training programs and accommodates emerging concepts aligned with modern warfare’s evolving demands.
Appointment/Assignment-Specific Courses
Designed for officers taking up specialized roles, these online modules provide domain-specific training in areas like information warfare, financial planning, veteran affairs, and defense land management. Officers can begin learning upon receiving their posting orders, expediting their readiness and efficiency.
Professional Development Suite
This category includes courses on strategy, leadership, organizational behavior, finance, emerging technology, and other critical skills. It also features a “Knowledge Highway” for accessing journals, research papers, and articles.
Anytime, Anywhere Learning
A standout feature of Eklavya is its flexibility. Officers can register for online courses at any point in their careers, independent of physical course nominations.
Advancing Professional Military Education
Eklavya promotes continuous learning, domain specialization, and operational readiness. By decongesting physical courses and offering tailored modules, the platform prepares officers for specialized appointments and equips them with skills for modern challenges.
