Yamuna flows on streets of Delhi

The Yamuna River is flowing above the danger mark as it has already reached 208.48 metres at 8 am today.
The Central Water Commission had predicted that the Yamuna could swell to 207.99 metres on Wednesday night, but it exceeded the estimated level and breached the mark of 208.05 metres, creating an extreme flood situation. The Yamuna entered the city on Wednesday evening. On Thursday morning, the water level breached the mark of 208.51 metres, with flood water entering Delhi›s ITO.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the Centre to intervene and ensure that the water released from Haryana›s Hathnikund barrage is slowed. Meanwhile, water released from the Hathnikund Barrage came down from 3.59 lakh cusecs at 11 am on Tuesday to 1.47 lakh cusecs at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Several areas of the city, like Kashmere Gate, Red Fort, ITO, the ring road, Shahdara, and many other places, are submerged as the water breaches the highest-ever mark. Earlier in the day, Delhi Traffic Police issued advisories as the Yamuna flows above several key roads. The movement of commercial vehicles will be regulated in the national capital, an advisory said. The Delhi police have also imposed Section 144 CrPC as a precautionary measure in the flood-prone areas of Delhi.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that the Wazirabad, Chandrawal, and Okhla water treatment plants will be closed due to the rising water level. This could cause a water problem in some parts of the national capital. He further said that the water treatment plants will be restarted as soon as the Yamuna River›s water recedes. He added, I would like to request that people not step out if it is not necessary.
On the other hand, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva hit out at the CM. He said every State seeks help from the centre. But his letter shows that the Delhi Government is not prepared at all.
