Women in SPG: Responsibilities and Roles
The SPG inducted women into its elite security force in 2015. Women commandos perform critical duties, including:
- Advanced Deployment: Deployed at Parliament gates for frisking female visitors.
- Close Protection: Surveillance and escorting female guests meeting the Prime Minister.
- Foreign Assignments: Participating in Advance Security Liaison (ASL) during the PM’s international trips.
At present, around 100 women serve as SPG commandos, contributing to close protection and advanced security arrangements.
About SPG
The Special Protection Group (SPG) was established in 1985 to provide close security to the Prime Minister, former PMs, and their immediate families. Known for their professionalism, leadership, and innovative security measures, the SPG works in collaboration with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and State Police Forces.
