The 71st National Film Awards witnessed history when Treesha Vivek Thosar was declared the youngest recipient of the Best Child Artist award. At the tender age of four, the Marathi child actress of ‘Naal 2’ was awarded the honor by President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhavan on September 24, evoking applause rivaling that of the biggest celebrities in the hall.

Treesha played the role of Chimi (also known as Revati) in Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti’s ‘Naal 2,’ produced by Nagraj Manjule. Her natural performance and screen presence stood out to the jury, who praised the film for its heartfelt portrayal of childhood and family bonds. Reports suggest Treesha was barely three when she shot the film, making her achievement even more remarkable.

Treesha Thosar Makes Record-Breaking Win

The National Award was accompanied by the Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus), a certificate, and a cash award, thereby entering the record books as the youngest ever in the category. Her stride up onto the stage—a diffident but self-assured child being honored on the nation’s largest film platform was the highlight of the ceremony, talked about for days.

Kamal Haasan Praises Treesha Thosar’s Historic Win

Veteran star Kamal Haasan was also among the many who wished the kid star well. He posted the message on his X, in which he mentioned, “Dear Ms. Treesha Thoshar, my bravest applause is for you. You’ve surpassed my record, as I was already six when I won my first award! Way to go, madam. Keep working on your amazing talent. My thanks to your elders in the house.”

Treesha also showed her delight on getting the National Film Award. In an interview with news agency ANI, she said, “I am very happy that the President congratulated me,” showing her elation at having met President Droupadi Murmu and receiving the award from her. The young actress, on her Instagram account, posted photographs from the award show, where she met a few seasoned actors, terming it “unforgettable and joyous moments.”

Treesha has already shared screen space with names such as Mahesh Manjrekar and Siddharth Jadhav, and her victory is likely to make many doors open in Marathi and Hindi films. For the time being, ‘Naal 2’ has not only provided recognition to her but also the historical honor of becoming a national record-breaker.
