Who is Shreyasi Singh? Trap Shooter Gets Paris Olympics Ticket After Quota Swap

Trap shooter Shreyasi Singh, 32, was not taken aback when she received an email from the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) informing her about being awarded a quota place for the Paris Games, as she believes in probability.

Shreyasi did not secure the quota place through her performance; instead, she obtained it through a swap with pistol shooter Palak, who had originally won the quota but lost her spot to Manu Bhaker. Manu’s success in both air pistol and sports pistol allowed her to compete in two events on one quota, prompting the NRAI to swap one of the quota places for a woman trap shooter, resulting in Shreyasi’s inclusion in the team.

The NRAI submitted a request for the quota swap to the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF), which was accepted.

Expressing her feelings, Shreyasi said, “I am really happy and at the same time nervous too. I knew the possibility of me getting a quota place, but I could believe it only after I got the mail from the federation.”

Shreyasi, an MLA from Jamui constituency of Bihar and the daughter of former NRAI president Digvijay Singh, revealed that it had been their shared dream to compete in the Olympics. She expressed joy and emotion at the realization of this dream, mentioning that her father, though no longer alive to witness it, would have been proud.

Despite receiving confirmation of her participation only on Friday, Shreyasi stated that she had been training rigorously regardless of the update.
