A powerful set of accusations has emerged against senior Chhattisgarh police officer Kalpana Verma. A businessman from Raipur, Deepak Tandon, has filed a complaint claiming Verma ensnared him in a romantic relationship and swindled him of money, jewellery, a car, and even hotel property, his losses add up to around ₹2.5 crore.

He alleges that Verma’s brother also profited, reportedly using the funds to establish a hotel. The case has ignited debate about integrity and abuse of power within the police force. Verma has rejected the charges as baseless and part of a “political conspiracy.”

Who Is DSP Kalpana Verma?

Kalpana Verma joined the Chhattisgarh Police as part of the 2016–17 batch. Over the years, she served in various demanding postings, from Raipur to anti-terror units, and eventually rose to the rank of DSP. Recently, she was posted in Dantewada, a sensitive district known for Naxal activity. Despite her rising career, little public information exists about her personal life, including details about her family background or education.

Earlier media reports had highlighted a viral image of Verma checking her phone at a high-profile gathering, a moment that sparked social media chatter. But nothing at the time suggested serious allegations.

The Complaint: Love, Luxury, and Heavy Allegations to DSP Kalpana Verma

According to Tandon’s complaint filed at Khammardih police station:

  • The two met in 2021 through a mutual acquaintance. What began as casual meetings reportedly turned into late-night calls and increasing intimacy.
  • Verma allegedly convinced Tandon to shower her with gifts, including cash amounting to ₹2 crore, a luxury car, a diamond ring worth ₹12 lakh, gold ornaments worth ₹5 lakh, a bracelet, and control over a hotel property.
  • Over time, Tandon claims Verma’s demands multiplied. She allegedly asked him to divorce his wife under pressure.
  • When Tandon refused and later requested the return of his money and assets, he alleges she used her police authority to intimidate him. Tandon reportedly produced WhatsApp chats and other evidence to support his claims.

He also named Verma’s brother, claiming Verma directed funds to his hotel venture.

DSP Kalpana Verma’s Defence

Kalpana Verma has dismissed the entire case as politically motivated. She said the accusations are “completely baseless” and aimed at maligning her image. She denied any relationship with Tandon or involvement in any improper dealings.

At present, the police have registered Tandon’s complaint and launched a preliminary inquiry. Verma has not been arrested.

Why This Case Matters: Trust, Power, and Police Accountability

This case raises larger questions about the integrity of law enforcement in sensitive regions. When a senior officer working in a conflict-prone area comes under criminal allegations, public trust is at risk.

Critics argue that the case reflects potential misuse of power, using a uniform to intimidate, coerce, or exploit. Supporters of accountability say that every allegation must be investigated impartially, regardless of rank.

What’s Next: Investigation, Evidence Verification, and Possible Fallout

Authorities will now examine Tandon’s evidence, transaction records, asset transfers, WhatsApp chats, and the hotel ownership trail. Investigators may also question Verma’s brother and other associates. The findings could lead to serious consequences if the allegations are proven: legal action, departmental inquiry, and loss of position.

For now, the case stays under investigation. Meanwhile, public scrutiny intensifies, with many watching closely, demanding transparency, fairness, and justice.
