In a major financial relief to farmers ahead of elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 20th installment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi Yojana on Saturday, August 3. This move will benefit over 74 lakh farmers in Bihar, with 2,000 being credited directly into each beneficiary’s bank account.

PM Modi to Release Funds from Varanasi

Prime Minister Modi will participate in a special program in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, from where he will officially transfer the funds to farmers across the country. The event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., and as soon as the PM initiates the release, the transfer of money into the accounts will commence.

In Bihar alone, 74 lakh registered farmers will get the benefit. Each of them will receive 2,000 under the central scheme, aimed at boosting income support to the country’s agrarian community.

Patna to Host State-Level Kisan Utsav

A state-level event will also take place in Patna’s Bapu Sabhagar to mark the occasion. Titled ‘Kisan Utsav Diwas,’ the event will witness the participation of 5,000 farmers from across the state.

Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will attend as the chief guest.

The event will also see Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Cooperation Minister Dr. Prem Kumar, Health Minister Mangal Pandey, Animal and Fisheries Resources Minister Renu Devi, and Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin as special guests. Agricultural scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras, officials from the agriculture department, and krishak mitras will also be present.

Relief for Farmers as Registry Clause Temporarily Waived

The Centre has temporarily removed the mandatory farmer registry condition ahead of the release. In this significant policy shift. This decision ensures that all current beneficiaries in Bihar will receive the 20th installment, regardless of whether they have completed the registration process.

Only about 4 lakh farmers in Bihar had completed the registry, which could have led to the exclusion of millions until now. By waiving this requirement, the central government has ensured inclusivity and wider reach of the scheme just before the Assembly elections.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha highlighted another important announcement that will be discussed during the event, the proposal for the creation of a Makhana Board in Bihar.

Bihar to Showcase Agricultural Innovations

The Patna event will also feature exhibitions on various agricultural schemes and innovations, including the Agricultural Roadmap, crop diversification, Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali, farm mechanization, agricultural feeders, and rural road development projects.
