According to IMD, residents of Delhi will wake up to a thick, humid blanket of fog on Saturday morning, setting the stage for a classic monsoon day defined by heavy showers and rumbling thunderstorms. With humidity levels touching a stifling 89%, the current temperature of 27°C will feel significantly warmer, prompting weather advisories for residents to prepare for a wet and potentially disruptive day.

What is the Weather Forecast for Delhi Today?

The forecast for Saturday, September 6, is unequivocally wet. According to weather projections, there will be thundery showers all day long, with a high possibility of 45% to a near-certain 85% of rain. The high humidity is the main driver of these intense showers. Despite the cloud cover, temperatures are expected to reach a high of 31-33°C, with a low of 24-27°C. Gentle easterly winds at 7 mph will do little to dispel the mugginess.

Days to Endure Monsoon

The active monsoon conditions are not a one-day event. The outlook suggests that this pattern of rain and thunderstorms is likely to continue for the next few days. Across the region, the monsoon trough is active and well-positioned for further rainfall, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Day-by-Day Forecast for Delhi

Sunday, September 7: The trend of thundery showers continues, with increasing cloudiness as the day progresses.  There is still a 40–65% chance of rain. Temperatures should be comparable, with highs of 31–32°C and lows of 24-27°C.

Monday, September 8: Forecasts show a slight divergence. Some models predict a break in the rain with sunny conditions and only a 25% chance of a shower, while others still forecast passing drizzle. Highs will be around 31-32°C, with lows of 24-26°C.

With a high probability of thunderstorms and heavy rain, residents are advised to:

  • Carry waterproof gear (umbrellas, raincoats) when venturing out.
  • During heavy showers, low-lying areas may experience waterlogging and traffic problems.
  • Be cautious of lightning during thunderstorms.
  • Stay hydrated despite the cool rain, as the high humidity can still lead to dehydration.
