The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for the next 72 hours, covering large parts of the country. The monsoon is leaving with both relief and danger following weeks of oppressive heat. There are reports of cloudbursts and flash floods, but rivers, dams, and lakes are filling up.

Here’s today’s weather forecast across major regions:

Delhi: Partly cloudy, very light rain possible. High 34°C, low 28°C.

Jaipur: Mostly sunny, slight rain chance. High 32°C, low 26°C.

Ludhiana: Clear skies, sunny. High 33°C, low 26°C.

Lucknow: Partly cloudy, rain possible. High 35°C, low 27°C.

Kanpur: Cloudy with light showers. High 34°C, low 27°C.

Mumbai: Light rain likely, partly cloudy. High 28°C, low 26°C.

Ahmedabad: Mostly sunny with brief rain. High 32°C, low 24°C.

Pune: High chance of rain. High 27°C, low 22°C.

Surat: Cloudy with scattered showers. High 32°C, low 26°C.

Bhopal: Cloudy with rain. High 31°C, low 24°C.

Indore: Mostly cloudy, showers expected. High 31°C, low 23°C.

Kolkata: Heavy thunderstorms by day, cloudy night. High 31°C, low 28°C.

Patna: Thunderstorms throughout the day. High 31°C, low 28°C.

Bengaluru: Cloudy, slight rain chance. High 27°C, low 20°C.

Chennai: 40% rain during day, 70% at night with thunderstorms. High 32°C, low 27°C.

Hyderabad: Heavy rain, light showers at night. High 27°C, low 23°C.

Visakhapatnam: Thunderstorms likely. High 30°C, low 25°C.

Nagpur: Daytime drizzle, night rain. High 30°C, low 25°C.

What Does This Mean for the Monsoon Season?

According to IMD, September 10–16 will see widespread rain across the country. Monsoon showers have boosted water reserves, yet risks of flooding remain in hilly states and coastal regions.

Which States Will See Heavy Rains?

Northwest India: Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may witness light to moderate rainfall with winds reaching 30–40 km/h.

Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat-Saurashtra, Konkan: High probability of heavy showers.

Eastern Belt: Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Vidarbha remain on red alert.

Northeast: Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Nagaland are expected to see continuous heavy rainfall.

What Are the Risks Ahead?

Flash floods and cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir.

  • Urban flooding risk in Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata.
  • Power cuts and road blockages in several districts due to lightning and high winds.

Note: An IMD official noted: “The coming week will be crucial for both relief and risk. While reservoirs are filling up, the intensity of rain may trigger floods in vulnerable areas.”
