Weather Today: Heavy Rain Alert for Mumbai, Pune, Delhi Grapples with Poor Air Quality | Know Your City

The IMD has issued rainfall alerts for Maharashtra and Telangana, while North Indian cities like Delhi face haze and poor air quality.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim for Thursday, September 25. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also very likely over the region. According to the weather report, a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and neighbourhood now lies over east Assam and neighbourhood and now extends upto mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height.

Under its influence, scattered to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over the region during the next two days. The IMD has also predicted heavy rainfall in isolated pockets of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Similar weather conditions are likely over Konkan, Goa, and central Maharashtra during the next five days. Gujarat is also likely to experience light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy precipitation at isolated places very likely during the next two days.

Delhi

The national capital is likely to see a mainly clear sky with haze in the morning. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to settle at 34 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. Winds will be moderate from the northwest. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is in the ‘Poor’ category.

Mumbai

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, predicting a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 28 and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively. Commuters are advised to plan travel accordingly due to potential waterlogging.

Kolkata

Thundershowers are expected throughout the day in the city of joy. The sky will be cloudy, and the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32°C and 27°C, respectively.

Chennai

A partly cloudy sky is on the forecast for Chennai. One or two spells of rain or thundershowers are possible. The maximum temperature will be around 34°C, and the minimum will be approximately 27°C.

Bengaluru

The silicon valley of India is likely to see a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 27°C and 21°C, respectively.

Other Cities

Hyderabad: Generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thundershowers. (Max: 29°C, Min: 22°C)

Ahmedabad: Partly cloudy sky with possibility of light rain. (Max: 31°C, Min: 25°C)

Pune: Generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain. (Max: 28°C, Min: 21°C)

Jaipur: Mainly clear sky. (Max: 34°C, Min: 25°C)

The IMD advises residents in alert areas to be cautious, check for traffic advisories, and avoid going to areas that are prone to waterlogging.
