The family of Kashmiri doctor Dr. Muzammil Shakil, arrested in a large explosives recovery case in Faridabad, has denied all terrorism allegations. Their plea comes as investigators connect the case to the Red Fort blast in Delhi, deepening the mix of family distress and security fears.
Who is the Muzammil Shakil – Arrested Doctor?
Dr. Muzammil Shakil, an MBBS degree holder, was identified by police as the occupant of a rented house in Faridabad’s Dhauj village. According to Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Kumar Gupta, Shakil was teaching at Al Falah University in the same area. The arrest followed a police operation on Sunday that led to the recovery of a massive 360 kg of ammonium nitrate explosive material and ammunition from his residence. Authorities clarified that while initial reports suggested RDX, the material was confirmed to be ammonium nitrate.

What is the Alleged Terror Link?
The case took on a much larger dimension just hours after the Faridabad recovery, when a car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort killed eight people and injured dozens. The probe has now drawn a connection between these two events. Police sources indicate that the car used in the blast has been traced to another Kashmir-based doctor, Dr. Umar Un Nabi, who is suspected to have been driving it. Preliminary investigations suggest Dr. Umar, Dr. Shakil, and another doctor, Dr. Adil Ahmed, were part of the same alleged terror module. This network is believed to have been involved in amassing the explosive materials found in Faridabad.

How is the Family Responding?
Facing a media storm, Dr. Shakil’s family has mounted a strong defence, asserting their Indian identity and ignorance of his activities. His mother, Naseema, stated that her son left home about four years ago to work as a doctor in Delhi and that the family had no information about him during this time. She said she learned about his arrest from others and urged the authorities to release him, adding that her other son has also been detained. She firmly denied any knowledge of his alleged role in the Delhi blast.

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Shakil’s brother spoke to press, vehemently rejecting the terrorism charges. He emphasized their family’s clean record, stating, “There hasn’t been a single case against our family in 50 years.” In a powerful declaration of patriotism, he said, “We are Indians by heart — we’ve even faced stone-pelting for India.” He added that the allegations have forced the cancellation of his sister’s wedding, which Dr. Shakil was supposed to attend.
