Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project on Monday, marking a significant milestone for the city’s transportation system. Accompanied by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, PM Modi traveled along the newly launched route from Section 1 metro station to GIFT City metro station.

Details of the Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 Project
The second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project was developed by the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, in collaboration with both the state and central governments. This new addition to the metro network is expected to greatly enhance connectivity within Ahmedabad, offering a faster, more efficient mode of transport for residents and commuters.
Launch of Namo Bharat Rapid Rail
Apart from the metro inauguration, PM Modi is also set to unveil several other key projects across Ahmedabad. Among them is the much-anticipated Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, previously known as the Vande Metro, which will run between Bhuj and Ahmedabad. Slated to open to the public on September 17, this 12-coach train will link Ahmedabad with its peripheral cities, significantly improving travel times compared to the existing suburban rail services.
₹8,000 Crore Worth of Projects in Ahmedabad
PM Modi’s visit to Ahmedabad also includes the launch of various developmental projects valued at over ₹8,000 crore. These projects span across energy, roadworks, and housing. The prime minister is expected to lay the foundation stones for critical infrastructure improvements, including the quadrupling of the Samakhiali-Gandhidham and Gandhidham-Adipur railway lines, as well as the construction of flyover bridges at Bakrol, Hathijan, Ramol, and Panjarpol Junction.
Solar Power Initiative: Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana
In addition to the metro and rail projects, PM Modi will meet with beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in Vavol, Gandhinagar. This ambitious scheme aims to provide free electricity to one crore households through the installation of rooftop solar power units, promoting renewable energy and reducing electricity costs for millions of families.
With these initiatives, PM Modi continues to push forward the agenda of infrastructural growth and energy sustainability, improving the overall quality of life for people in Gujarat and beyond.
