Tragedy struck Bihar’s Rohtas district on Thursday as four people, including a five-year-old boy, drowned in separate incidents during Chhath Puja celebrations, police reported. Large crowds had gathered at various water bodies for the festival when the incidents occurred.
In the first incident, Ayush Kumar (18) and Abhishek Kumar (22), both from Pipra village, drowned in the Chausa canal, according to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Bikramganj, Kumar Sanjay.
In a separate incident, a five-year-old boy from Bhadokhara village, accompanied by his father, drowned in a pond, as confirmed by Tilauthu Circle Officer Harsh Hari.
In another tragic event, four individuals from Pipra village slipped into the Sone river. One person was rescued, while the body of 32-year-old Pintu Yadav was recovered. The search is ongoing for two others, Dharmendra and Abhinav, who are the brother and nephew of the deceased.
In a separate incident in Khagaria, around 400 km from Rohtas, Gajendra Kumar, a 22-year-old man from Bangalia village, was swept away by strong currents in the Kosi river. Shubham Pandey, SHO of Mansi police station, confirmed that search operations are underway.
