Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, has strongly criticised the Election Commission for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar. He accused the Commission of “misusing” its authority as a Constitutional body.

Allegations of Voter List Manipulation

Speaking to reporters, the former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister claimed that names of many voters were being removed, some people lacked necessary documents, and others who lived outside Bihar were still registered to vote in the state.

“This is Bihar’s misfortune… This is a conspiracy by the BJP, and the BJP is getting its work done by using the Election Commission as a front,” Yadav alleged. He added that Bihar needed a special package and special state status to develop, but instead, the SIR process was being carried out in a flawed manner.

Accusation Against Deputy CM

Yadav also repeated his earlier claim that Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha holds two voter cards. “The Deputy Chief Minister himself has dumped the entire matter on the Election Commission,” he said. He further alleged that the Election Commission often ignores even the Supreme Court and is misusing its status as a Constitutional institution.

INDIA Bloc Joins Protest

Earlier in the day, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge joined INDIA bloc members in Parliament to protest against the SIR exercise. Several Opposition MPs wore white T-shirts printed with the slogan “124 Not Out” and some, including NCP MP Supriya Sule and DMK MP Kanimozhi, held onions during the demonstration.

Protests and Detentions

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other INDIA bloc MPs were detained by Delhi Police while marching from Parliament to the Election Commission office. They were protesting against alleged irregularities in Bihar’s voter list revision process.
