STF Of WB Busts ‘Shahadat’ Terror Module Linked To Al Qaeda Affiliates In Bangladesh

The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal uncovered a new terror module named ‘Shahadat’ on Saturday, which is reportedly operating out of Bangladesh. In connection with the module, the STF has arrested one individual.

Md Habibullah, the chief of the module, was apprehended at his residence in Kanksa, Paschim Bardhaman district. Habibullah, known as the Ameer, or head, of the module, was taken into custody.

According to the STF West Bengal, this terror module is linked with ‘Ansar Al Islam,’ a banned terror organization in Bangladesh affiliated with the global terrorist group ‘Al Qaida.’ Previously known as the Ansarullah Bangla group in Bangladesh, this faction is an offshoot of Al Qaida, the STF stated.

The militant group was attempting to establish a presence in India under the name Shahadat. It has been discovered that the group members mainly communicate through a cryptic messaging platform called ‘BiP’ and are working covertly to commit acts detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of both India and Bangladesh.

“In this regard, a specific case has been registered in Kanksa PS under Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate under relevant Sections of law in the IPC and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act,” stated the STF WB.
