Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, will be an attendee at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from 13 January 2025. Her visit to this sacred Hindu congregation is a pointer to the global importance and universal appeal of the congregation. Powell Jobs is going to experience Kalpvas, spiritual practice with ancient Hindu customs.

Kalpvas is the spiritual practice for one month, where the individual stresses upon spiritual development and internal purification. It begins with Paush Purnima and ends on Maghi Purnima. The participants, called Kalpvasis, stay in temporary shelters near the Sangam-the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers-putting aside all the modern comforts. They take a holy dip in the river every day, listen to spiritual discourses, and participate in devotional music sessions.

The *Times of India* reports that Laurene Powell Jobs will remain at the camp of Swami Kailashananda, Mahamandaleshwar of the Niranjani Akhara. Her stay until January 29 will include taking part in all rituals and also taking a sacred dip at the Sangam. She will fully submerge herself in the spiritual traditions of the Mela.

The Maha Kumbh Mela is one of the most important religious gatherings in Hinduism, held every twelve years, which attracts millions of devotees, saints, and seekers from all over the world. This central focus of devotion is believed to cleanse sins and provide spiritual blessings in the Sangam’s waters.

Kalpvasis represent the essence of Mela by staying in very simple accommodation, devoting time for prayer, meditation, and community worship. This event has a transcending characteristic of cultural and geographical boundaries by providing an avenue for spiritual bonding and enlightenment.

But now, with a global resonance on the Maha Kumbh Mela site, people who come from totally different walks of life are seeking to be with this timeless traditional event. Even in modernity, it imparts a particular flavor to being part of Laurene Powell Jobs. As thousands of people thong Prayagraj’s streets, their coming together as one inspires hopefulness, devotion and spiritual renewal once again.
