SpiceJet has signed a lease agreement for five additional Boeing 737 aircraft to strengthen its fleet before the Winter season. The move takes the airline’s total planned new inductions to 10 aircraft, reflecting its aggressive strategy to capture peak-season demand. Most of the planes will arrive in October 2025, with some joining earlier, to serve high-demand routes through early summer 2026.

Fleet Boost to Meet Peak Demand

The airline confirmed that the newly leased aircraft will operate under damp lease arrangements. These planes will primarily fly on popular winter routes and remain in service until May 2026 before exiting the fleet. The expansion comes as part of SpiceJet’s preparation to handle the seasonal surge in passenger traffic and to enhance its network reach during peak periods.

Second Major Lease Deal in Two Months

Just last month, SpiceJet had announced plans to induct five Boeing 737s from another operator on a similar damp lease arrangement. Together with the latest deal, the carrier’s winter fleet expansion now totals 10 additional aircraft. The company also revealed that it is in “advanced discussions” for further leasing agreements ahead of the winter schedule.

Management Confident of Readiness

Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer at SpiceJet, said the expansion is designed to give passengers greater choice, stronger connectivity, and dependable on-time service. “SpiceJet is fully geared to meet the surge in travel demand for the upcoming winter and early summer seasons. With the induction of these additional Boeing 737s, we are ensuring that our passengers have more choices, greater connectivity, and a reliable, on-time travel experience,” he said in a statement.

Strategic Timing for Market Advantage

Industry watchers point out that winter season is one of the busiest travel periods of the year, filling flights across domestic and international routes and by locking in more aircraft before the rush begins, SpiceJet is setting itself up to ride the seasonal wave of demand and keep more seats filled.

The damp lease model gives the airline breathing room — it can operate a bigger fleet when demand peaks and then step back once travel slows after May. This timing is no accident. With rival carriers also adding capacity, SpiceJet’s move signals a clear intent to hold its ground and even win more passengers.
