At least six workers were killed in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, on Saturday, according to sources. The explosion is believed to have occurred during the chemical mixing process, which caused a room to collapse and led to the fatalities.
Officials from the fire and rescue department have reached the site to assess the situation.
LPG Tanker Overturns in Coimbatore, Minor Gas Leak Reported
In a separate incident, a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker overturned on the Avinashi Road flyover in Coimbatore early on Friday, resulting in a minor gas leak. The tanker detached from the truck while negotiating a roundabout on the flyover, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Traffic in the city temporarily came to a halt due to the accident. Schools within a 500-meter to one-kilometer radius were instructed to close for safety precautions.
Police and rescue teams responded promptly to prevent a major disaster. The fire service personnel sprayed water on the tanker, which was carrying 18 tonnes of LPG en route to a Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) bottling plant in Coimbatore from Kochi, Kerala.
