Sheikh Hasina’s Second India Trip In 15 Days, Ahead of PM’s Dhaka Trip

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled for her second trip to India within a month, with plans to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21. Her previous visit was on June 9, when she attended Prime Minister Modi’s oath-taking ceremony in New Delhi, making this upcoming visit less than two weeks later.

Bangladesh has shown a strong interest in arranging a one-on-one meeting between Prime Minister Hasina and Prime Minister Modi before Hasina’s trip to China in July. This initiative is part of Dhaka’s strategy to maintain a balanced relationship with both countries, as reported by Hindustan Times.

The upcoming visit of the Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina to India will mark India’s first bilateral meeting under the Modi 3.0 government.

What Can Be Expected From The Meeting

The upcoming summit, lasting a day, will focus on various aspects such as defense collaboration, cross-border connectivity, trade, and more. Additionally, there will be discussions about organizing a joint military drill. India has extended a $500 million line of credit to Dhaka, which remains untapped thus far.

PM Modi and Hasina are set to evaluate the comprehensive bilateral ties, including the progress of mutual developmental endeavors like infrastructure projects involving roads, railways, and connectivity.

They will also deliberate on renewing the Ganges Water Sharing Treaty and advancing cooperation on the cross-border Teesta River.

PM Modi to visit Dhaka

In the interim, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to travel to Bangladesh for another significant meeting with Prime Minister Hasina, although the exact dates for the trip have not yet been finalized.

He will make an official visit to Dhaka at the invitation of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, who extended the invitation during his swearing-in ceremony, requesting Prime Minister Modi’s presence in Bangladesh.
