Satya Nadella announced on Tuesday that Microsoft will invest US$17.5 billion — its largest ever investment in Asia — into India’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. Nadella committed just hours after meeting Narendra Modi at his residence in Delhi. In a post on X, he wrote:

“Thank you, PM @narendramodi ji, for an inspiring conversation on India’s AI opportunity. To support the country’s ambitions, Microsoft is committing US$17.5B — our largest investment ever in Asia — to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India’s AI-first future.”

This pledge signals Microsoft’s deep faith in India’s potential as a global AI power and sets a high-stakes plan to shape the country’s digital future.

This is a developing story.
