Salman Khan Firing Case: Accused Dies in Hospital After Suicide Attempt in Police Custody

Ajay Thapan who was suspected of giving the gun used in the shooting near Salman Khan’s house, allegedly tried to take his own life while in police custody at the crime branch lockup in Mumbai. Sadly, he passed away after being found in critical condition and taken to St. George Hospital for treatment.

Officials stated that Thapan died while being treated at the hospital. He and another person, Sonu Subhash Chander from Punjab, were detained by Mumbai Police on April 25.

In the wee hours of April 14, two people on motorcycles shot at Salman’s Galaxy Apartments. The alleged shooters, Sagar Kumar Pal from Gujarat and Vikas Kumar Gupta, were arrested by the police later on. Investigators say the gunmen practiced shooting in Bihar before the incident.

The Mumbai Crime Branch says they have CCTV footage showing one of the suspects firing at Salman Khan’s house. They believe this proves the attack was carefully planned, supporting their description of it as a well-thought-out assault.

The investigation, led by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mahendra Bagadiya, found that all the accused were hired by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to shoot at Khan’s home. Actor Salman Khan was shot outside his house in Bandra on April 14. In response, the Mumbai police applied the strict Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on April 27.

The shooters, Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21), along with Sonu Kumar Chander Bishnoi (37) and Anuj Thapan (32), have been charged under MCOCA for allegedly providing two rifles and ammunition. The case also involves gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi, who are wanted suspects.
