Rishi Sunak, the former Prime Minister of the UK, and his father-in-law Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, were seen sitting in the front row at the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) on Saturday. Sunak’s wife, Akshata Murthy, and her mother, Sudha Murty, an author and Rajya Sabha MP, were set to participate in a session titled “My Mother, Myself.”

A presenter at the event acknowledged their presence, saying, “Just to say again and acknowledge, we have got two wonderful people Narayana Murthy and former Prime Minister (of Britain) Rishi Sunak. Thank you and welcome to the Jaipur Literature Festival,” to which the audience erupted in applause.

At this point, Sunak’s aunt-in-law prompted him to greet the audience. He responded by standing up, performing a namaste, waving to the crowd, and sitting back down.

The presenter continued, “For those of you who don’t know, Rishi and Akshata were great supporters of JLF London before he joined the suit gang. But now he is back, and back to us. So thank you so much for being here.”

Since stepping down as Conservative Party leader after a significant electoral loss in July of the previous year, Sunak has taken on academic roles at the University of Oxford and Stanford University—both institutions he attended. These roles run alongside his position as an Opposition MP in the House of Commons.

Before his career in politics, Sunak worked in business and finance and co-founded an investment firm that supported small and growing British companies.

This year’s JLF features over 300 notable personalities, including Nobel laureates, Booker Prize winners, writers, and policymakers, such as Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo, Amol Palekar, Ira Mukhoty, and Javed Akhtar.
