Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s security has been upgraded to CRPF level protection after she was subjected to an attack by a man during a public hearing, or Jan Sunwai, at her Civil Lines Camp Office.

CM Rekha Gupta already has a Z-Plus category police protection under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA guidelines), and now the Union Home Ministry has upgraded it to CRPF level, providing an additional Z category cover without changing the existing arrangements.

CRPF Deployment and Measures

Sources reported to PTI that the decision follows a threat perception report prepared by the central intelligence agencies. Her residence and Camp Office are now being closely monitored and secured by the VIP Security Group (VSG) of the CRPF, same as Home Minister Amit Shah and the Gandhi family.

Officials have confirmed that 20-25 CRPF commandos have joined the existing 35-45 existing security personnel under the new Z-Plus cover. New security measures include advanced gadgets, male and female PSOs for close protection whenever the CM is in public.

Restrictions on Jan Sunwai

Strict rules have been imposed on the public hearings. A police source told PTI, “Complainants will not be allowed to directly approach the chief minister during Jan Sunwai sessions.” Any complaint will first be verified before reaching Rekha Gupta to keep a safe distance between the visitors and the chief minister.

Details of the Attack

A man allegedly pulled Delhi CM Rekha Gupta’s hair and attacked her during a Jan Sunwai on Wednesday. He was immediately restrained by the officers surrounding the chief minister. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva later dismissed the claims of CM Rekha Gupta being slapped and claimed the reports to be ‘fabricated’.

The accused is identified as Rajesh Sakriya from Gujarat who has been arrested under attempt to murder charges. The officials confirmed that the new security protocols will be in action for all the future public hearings.
