New Dehli, July 22: Upping the ante against the government, C9jgress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was allegedly manhandled by the police personnel during Tuesday’s protest near the Prime Minister’s residence stated as the Leader of Opposition in Lower House it is his duty to express the will of the students, and he is ready to take more punches.
He also stated that the INDIA bloc is united over the issue concerning to the students, and said they are fully in agreement with what the students are seeking, and will keep continuing to support them and demanded fkr action against those eho ordered and executed the police atrocities against students while reiterating the demand kf resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The Gandhi scion also accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of trying to distract from the issue, but warned that such tactics won’t work.
Addressing a press conference at the new party headquartere Indira Bhawan, Rahul Gandhi, sho is alsi the Rae Bareli MP said, “Why is this happening to our students? What exactly have our students done to have security forces aiming weapons at them? They are protesting peacefully. They are voicing their demands and asking for what the country owes them. They are not committing any crime. “
He said they are simply asking for an education system that works fairly, and they do not have one.
“Students have died by suicide. Our students go through immense stress, only to be told at the last minute that the paper has been leaked. There is a legitimate problem,” the Leader of Opposition in Lower House said.
Referring to the country’s education system, he said, “Our education system which was known be one of the best education system, is today a rigged system. In the last 10 years, 152 leaks took place.
“What does the government do ? There is zero conviction. 7.5 crore students and their families are affected by this,” he said.
“Students are demanding resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. He is known to be “corrupt”, and should be removed. The students are demanding everyone who assaulted students must be held accountable and Prime Minister Narendra Modi must apologise to students,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi, who has been criticising the ruling dispensation over the matter, further said, “We fully support every single student who is on the street. We support their demands. We are going to ensure they and their future are protected. Students want a change in the education system.”
In response to a question on whether he was allegedly manhandled by the police personnel while taken away along with other leaders for holding demonstration outside the Prime Minister’s residence yesterday, he said, “How I was treated is an irrelevant issue? Do whatever you want? The focus has to be on the education system. The government is trying is to distract from this issue.”
“My job is to express the will of the India’s students. This is the job I have to do as a Leader of Opposition. Its a huge honour. I am happy to take more punches,” he said.
In response to another question, the Congress leader said, ” The Opposition as a whole is supporting the students. We will continue to support them. What the Government has done with the students, with us is a panic reaction.”
