The images depict rough floodwaters rushing through the location, with a number of onlookers trying to assist. But the current was too powerful for most, highlighting the danger the hotel employee faced to rescue the man’s life.
The city meanwhile still struggles with the impact of the rain shower. Main roads are still underwater, and disruptions have affected daily life in many places.
Videos posted by ANI early on Saturday morning showed that the Ana Sagar Lake had started overflowing as a result of the incessant rain. As a bid to save their homes and shops, residents were photographed queuing up sandbags to curb the rising water levels.
Providing an update on the situation, Municipal Corporation Chief Engineer Vinod Manohar explained, “The waterlogging is due to the water from the escape channels (of the lake)… The channel gates have been opened by nearly 30 inches and if needed, we will reduce it… There has been 8-9 inches of rainfall since yesterday…”
