Heavy rains on Wednesday morning led to significant waterlogging and traffic jams across several key roads in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Even while the early rain helped reduce the unbearable humidity, many people’s morning journeys were still hampered.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the day, predicting moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms. In central, south, and east Delhi, the rain caused traffic to slow down, with notable bottlenecks near ITO, AIIMS, Minto Bridge, and the Ring Road.
Commuters Face Long Delays
There were jams and lengthy delays as a result of several internal roads in Noida and Ghaziabad flooding. Because of poor drainage infrastructure, commuters expressed their frustrations on social media by posting pictures and videos of stuck cars and flooded streets.
Due to heavy rains, Gurugram residents reported water buildup in sectors 14 and Sohna Road as well as Golf Course Road. Traffic slowed significantly, although there were no official reports of serious flooding. At some locations, emergency response teams were sent in to unclog sewers and make it easier for cars to move.
A resident commuting through Gurugram said, “There was a massive jam on Sohna Road. Vehicles were stuck for hours, and even ambulances couldn’t move. Authorities need to do more than just routine preparedness drills.
Flights Not Affected, But Advisory Issued
While airport operations remained largely unaffected, airlines issued travel advisories cautioning passengers about potential delays in reaching terminals due to waterlogging on arterial routes. Flyers were advised to plan their commute in advance and stay updated on traffic conditions.
Yellow Alert Continues:
The IMD has maintained a yellow alert for the coming days, urging residents to avoid waterlogged zones, stay indoors if it’s not necessary to go outside, and follow official advisories.
