Power Outage Hits PSPCL And PSTCL Head Office; Rajindra Hospital Struggles With Power Issues Again

The head offices of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) experienced a significant power outage today, which lasted around 45 minutes.

In another incident, Rajindra Hospital faced a power disruption as the generator set failed to function, despite strict orders from Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh. An official, requesting anonymity, reported that the genset did not operate in the surgery wing, and another confirmed that the OPD section was also impacted by the power failure.

Sources indicate that this is the first time the head office of the Power Corporation has been without power for such a prolonged period.

The outage at Rajindra Hospital occurred while PSPCL officials were identifying a fault that had caused a blackout the previous month. During the repair work, a technical glitch emerged, necessitating an immediate switch to a newly installed alternate 11 KV grid. Unfortunately, another fault developed during the transition, complicating the restoration efforts. However, authorities quickly took action and successfully rerouted the power to another line.

When contacted, Dr. Girish Sahni, the medical superintendent of Rajindra Hospital, confirmed the power outage and noted that PSPCL engineers handled the situation efficiently by transferring the load to another line. He refuted claims of the genset failing in the surgery wing, asserting that it functioned correctly alongside other gensets.

Previously, on July 21, Rajindra Hospital experienced a power cut around 8:00 PM, resulting in a three-hour blackout. The issue was resolved, and power was restored by 11:00 PM.
