India’s EAM S Jaishankar has spoken sharply about Pakistan’s growing closeness with the United States. He suggested that both countries share a history of ignoring uncomfortable facts, including Osama bin Laden’s presence in Abbottabad.

Pakistan & US Camaraderie on Display
The latest signs of close ties came when Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir visited the White House. Soon after, PM Shehbaz Sharif publicly thanked Donald Trump during his Independence Day address. The renewed friendship raised questions about the nature of this bond.
When asked about these developments, Jaishankar responded quickly. He said, “They have a history together, and they have a history of overlooking that history.”

Reminder of Osama Bin Laden
S. Jaishankar also dropped a clear reference to Pakistan’s past. He remarked, “It is the same military that went into Abbottabad (in Pakistan) and found who there?” His words were about Osama bin Laden, the 9/11 mastermind. Bin Laden was killed in a US operation in Abbottabad in 2011.
The minister highlighted how militaries sometimes cooperate despite past betrayals. He used the bin Laden case to show how convenience often shapes international ties.
Politics of Convenience
S. Jaishankar continued, “When countries are very focused on doing politics of convenience, they keep trying to do this. Some of it can be tactical or can have other benefits and calculations.”
His statement hinted that countries often ignore long-term trust issues when short-term goals are at stake.

Pakistan’s Admission of ‘Dirty Work’
Not long ago, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif made a surprising remark about his country’s role in US operations. Speaking to Sky News, he said, “Well, we have been doing this dirty work for the United States for three decades.”
This comment came after the terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam that killed 26 innocent people. The Resistance Front (TRF), linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack.
Pakistan Downplays Its Past
After his statement caused uproar, Asif tried to soften the impact. He claimed it was all in the past. He also said that Lashkar-e-Taiba no longer exists and so TRF is also non-existent.

India’s Warning
By recalling Abbottabad, Jaishankar reminded the world of Pakistan’s record of sheltering global terrorists. His comments send a warning that convenient partnerships may hide serious risks. For India, the remarks underline its concern over any US tilt toward Pakistan.
